Fashioned for Assignment

Have you ever had one of those moments where the thought just hit you, “I was born for this!” There is something so empowering about that feeling when your unique set of skills and your passion collide with a need that you can be an answer to. You are in the right place, at the right time, with the right tools to make a difference.

I think about the little boy who shared his lunch of 5 loaves and 2 fish with Jesus to watch it multiply and feed many.

I think of Esther saving her people with prayer, and wisdom, and a favor over her life with the boldness to act.

I think of David with his slingshot and stones, taking down Goliath and all that followed after.

I think of Jeremiah and love so much the verse that pronounces his call. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

I love this verse for multiple reasons, but one of them is that it exemplifies being born with purpose, with assignment. Before Jeremiah was born, God had already set him apart with an assignment - to be a prophet to the nations.

When the time was right, Jesus was sent to earth to deliver the world from sin. He came with assignment.

YOU were born into this time and this place to these circumstances for assignment that God designed you for before you were born. What is that thing? It is important to not only know the season that you are in, but also your role in it. YOU are fashioned for assignment.

What is your assignment? How do you find out if you don’t know? PRAY about it and ASK God to give you wisdom and discernment regarding HIS assignment over your life.

Second, ACT your assignment! You may have been told before (or warned your own kids), to  “act your age.” Now, I won’t get into the problems that I have with this phrasing except that it is non-specific and could have many meanings or be misunderstood… Instead, I say, “act your assignment” which is more about recognizing the role you may play. When you act your assignment you are called to a higher standard. Depending on our assignment, there is a weight of responsibility that comes along with it.

When Mary, the mother of Jesus was greeted by the angel to be told she would carry and give birth to the Son of God, she responded with humility and a recognition of her role, “I am the Lord’s servant, let it be to me as you have said.” (Luke 1:38)

If you aren’t sure what your role is, start with what you do know. Matthew 28:18-20 says:

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

You have the authority on your life to go and make disciples. As a Christian, this is your role! What a joy it is to bring someone to Jesus! This year at INSPIRE conference, we have this campaign to Go get her! Maybe you have a friend, a sister, family member, or coworker on your heart that would be impacted or that needs Jesus - Go get her! Invite her to come with you to conference. We want to help you spread the news of Jesus! Find out more at https://www.penndelwomen.org/go-get-her

Remember, you were born into this world with a specific time and place for a purpose. Ask God to reveal it to you, and act your assignment. Go and make disciples. Tell others about what Jesus did in your life. You are fashioned for assignment!

We can’t wait to see you soon in Hershey! Now, go get her!
